In 2009 a mysterious computer developer going by the name Satoshi Nakamoto released the first Bitcoins to the world. Preceded by white papers explaining a solution to “The Byzantine General’s” dilemma, Satoshi completely re-wrote the concept of money. In this new world envisioned by Satoshi, currencies could be peer-to-peer, no longer controlled or issued by central authorities and governments.
Fast forward to the present, and Bitcoin is now a multi-billion dollar economy, and it has spawned an entire family of “crypto-currencies.”
